CEO self loathing or self awareness?

I meant to comment on the GE CEO’s surprising frankness a few days ago but I’ve been focused on planning shoots and writing campaign plans. Anyway,  Jeffrey Immelt’s comments at West Point last week are definitely worth reading.

Immelt’s speech sounds like an acknowledgment and an apology for what average Americans now know was a period of unparalleled greed and personal excess by our nation’s business leaders during the run-up to the near-collapse of the world’s economy.  Immelt is talking a good game about the shrinking of the middle class and the growing inequality in American society.

But is this just smart PR or is this guy really seeing things in a new way and ready to move one of the world’s largest corporations in a new direction?

What’s next? Will we be hearing soon that GE’s CEO is in favor of the “redistribution of wealth?” And will the Tea Party folks label him a Socialist too?

No. That would really be “Imagination at Work.”

    I’m guessing it’s a bit of both…

let’s see him support real corporate regulatory reform. then i’ll believe it’s more than good PR and speech writing. (which I, of course, grudgingly respect.)

GE’s adds have been touting their belief in the American recovery. Corporate governance is one thing……let’s see em place a new production facility, here that would be indicative of new direction.

Interesting question Quigley. Glad to see you bloggin’ a bit.

I completely think they will label him a socialist. No one is spared from than no matter how ridiculous.

I hope he’s on the right track myself…
